Glossary
Key Artilio terms, defined.
Gallery
The album you deliver to a client: the top-level unit for one job.
A gallery is the top-level unit you deliver to a client, the photo album for a single job (one wedding, one shoot, one school day). Each gallery has a title, a unique link, one or more chapters, and access settings that control who sees what.
Chapter
A named section inside a gallery; its photos show as a labelled group.
A chapter divides a gallery into named sections, for example Ceremony, Reception, or one chapter per class. When you drag photos into a chapter, they appear as a labelled group in the client's view.
Sub-chapter
A section nested inside a chapter, used for volume photography.
A sub-chapter is a section nested inside a chapter. It is useful for volume photography, where a chapter represents a class and each sub-chapter represents a single student.
Per-chapter visibility
One gallery, multiple roles, each seeing only the chapters you allow.
Per-chapter visibility lets one gallery serve several audiences at once. Each access role sees only the chapters you allow, so the couple can get everything while guests see only the ceremony and reception, with no duplicate galleries to manage.
Secret link
A shareable URL that opens the gallery for anyone who has it.
A secret link grants access to anyone who has the URL, with no email invite required. You can set an expiry date, cap the number of uses, and revoke it instantly when you are done.
Email invite
A named invite tied to a specific person's email address.
A named (email) invite ties gallery access to a specific person's email address, the more controlled of the two sharing methods. Use it when a specific, identified person should open the gallery; use a secret link when anyone with the URL should get in.
Gallery password
A password that locks a gallery; anyone you give it to opens the gallery with it.
Galleries are private by default. A gallery password is the simplest protection: Artilio can generate a short, memorable password or you can set your own, and anyone you share it with enters it once to open the gallery. You can change or remove it any time (removing it makes the gallery open to anyone with the link). If a client forgets it, you view or regenerate the password in the gallery's sharing settings, there is nothing to reset on the client side.
Selection
The client marking the photos they want, the proofing step.
A selection is what the client marks during proofing. With proofing enabled, clients can rate photos, mark favourites, leave comments, and flag shots as selected for retouching, giving you a clear brief without email threads or spreadsheets.
AI assistant
Manage Artilio by typing a sentence, in the dashboard and via Claude.
The AI assistant lets you ask questions, create galleries, manage access, and check client activity by typing a sentence. It is available inside the dashboard and through Claude.
